Garmin GNS 530 / GNS 430 Computer-based Trainer

ElectronicFlight Solutions\' Computer-based GPS Navigation Trainer — Garmin 530/430

Certainly one of the most innovative products is the Garmin GNS 530 and 430 IFR certified GPS/Nav/Com. These systems include a vast amount of capabilities, including full color moving map and MFD capabilities. However, the highly capable nature of this new equipment also creates an overload of information that some pilots are having difficulty absorbing. While the 200+ page Garmin Pilot’s Guide should be utilized in the cockpit as a reference, it leaves much room for improvement when training pilots on the efficient use of the GNS 530/430.

After successful completion of this training module, the operation and familiarity of the Garmin GPS should become second nature when it counts the most—under high-workload situations. At the very core of the self-paced CBT (computer-based training) program is the ElectronicFlight Complete Learning™ Methodology that focuses on the following basic elements: Instill conceptual knowledge, instead of rote memorization Implant mental models (a picture imprinted into permanent memory) Present the conceptual organization of a system Provide requisite knowledge using highly graphical methods Reinforce knowledge with targeted practice exercises Implement feedback and remedial review when checked for retention For additional information, click on the following link.

Garmin GNS 530/430 Advanced Training Series: Vol. 1

Get the most from your Garmin

Volume 1 of the VFLITE (now Jeppesen) Advanced Training Series is designed for all pilots flying with the GNS 530 & 430 systems who want to learn how to handle challenging and complex procedures. It\'s also a great refresher tool to get you recurrent and minimize the "highly perishable skills syndrome" that occurs from infrequent use of your Garmin navigator. And it\'s the safe way to discover the full power of your GNS 530 & 430, compared to heads down in-cockpit training.

The Volume 1 of the series complements and builds on skills learned from the VFLITE GNS 530/430 Interactive Guide while expanding comprehension on advanced operations such as: OBS Mode Changes Undefined DPs Amended Routings Unpublished Holds Changing Transitions & Approaches Intercepting Radials Missed Approaches
What You\'ll Learn

Volume 1 of the VFLITE GNS 530/430 Advanced Training Series contains over 25 topics that build your confidence, show valuable shortcuts and a virtual flight that you\'ll never forget (at least we hope not). After first going through the briefing section, you\'ll be demonstrated eleven different advanced Flight Scenarios, which you\'ll then fly, initially with on-screen guidance, during the topic\'s "Training" mode. Then you\'ll fly the scenarios in the "Solo" mode, to reinforce what you learned in the Demo mode and practiced in the Training mode.

Now you\'ll be cleared for the CheckFlite™, the virtual flight from hell. Testing your GNS 530/430 operational knowledge thoroughly, the CheckFlite begins with a tricky IFR clearance and departure then continues with multiple amendments, unpleasant surprises, re-routes, an unpublished hold and finally concludes with modified approach & missed procedures.

While you\'re dealing with weather and ATC imposed issues, the CheckFlite will also assess your procedural logic, offering multiple-choice decisions for you to make. Successful completion of the CheckFlite will not only give you strong confidence in your abilities but will generate a certificate of completion, for FAA Wings credit and more…

Garmin GNS 530/430 Interactive Guide

The hands-on, multi-media based practical guide.

The VFLITE (now Jeppesen) Garmin GNS 530/430 Interactive Guide is an advanced, extensive computer-based learning program that provides information on almost all operational aspects of the GNS 530 and 430 navigators. A realistic built-in emulator is a key part of the program, allowing users to learn procedures in a linear, scenario-based fashion, with extensive animated sequences that match the actual GNS 530/430 screens.

The emulator supports a three-step learning methodology. First an animated, narrated sequence demonstrates the selected task. Next, the user practices the operation just demonstrated, the training assisted with textual, on-screen "pop-up" prompts, that guide them through the task. Finally, the user repeats the task alone (without the pop-up help), to reinforce procedures and instill confidence.

Re-learn what you forgot, or never really knew you were missing.

If you\'ve logged some time with the GNS 530/430, and you\'re like most pilots, you first probably spent some time reviewing the manual. Then you sat in the cockpit pushing the keys and twisting the knobs to see what they would do (and ran the aircraft battery down). Maybe you used the Garmin simulator (which saved the battery but fell short of real instruction). But when you took off to get some airborne experience with the GNS navigator, you were quickly reminded that flying is where you apply the skills you learned on the ground-not the other way around. If you were really lucky, you may have worked with one of the very few flight instructors who are well versed with the 530 & 430s.

Perhaps some time has passed since you last used your GNS and you have become "rusty" on important tasks, such as how to modify a flight plan or select an approach transition. (Hopefully your rust didn\'t pop up while single pilot on an approach to minimums!). Have you discovered that your GNS management skills are "highly perishable?" Or are you like most GNS owners; you know that the box has powerful functions you aren\'t using (such as Distance Measurement or the +Map feature) because you haven\'t had time to learn how to access them. Can you use the OBS mode on your box (it confuses most pilots)? VFLITE can help.…
